Harjo Exectued Tuesday Night
14 Killers' Lives Ended By State This Year
McALESTER -- Oklahoma executed its 14th convicted killer of the year Tuesday night.
Jerald Harjo was put to death for strangling and possibly raping Ruth Porter 13 years ago. Prosecutors said that he wanted to steal her van, and went into her home to get the keys.
As with other executions, people against the death penalty staged a protest in front of the governor's mansion Tuesday night.
The protesters hope to influence Gov. Frank Keating to stop all executions, saying that the state could find better ways to deal with killers.
