BROKEN ARROW, Okla. -- Hanging out in the front yard. Working on a car. Both are acceptable behaviors on a hot Oklahoma summer day, right?

Police said they're acceptable as long as the person performing these activities is wearing clothes. Failure to do so twice has a Broken Arrow man facing two indecent-exposure charges, police say.

James Barnett, 57, has been charged with public nudity after a neighbor's mother called police. Officials said Barnett's charge could carry felony penalties if he is convicted.

Nine-year-old Neil Charbonneau said he discovered that his neighbor Barnett was naked while he was riding his bike throughout the neighborhood and the man was working on his car.

"I saw a buck-naked man in his truck," Charbonneau said.

Maj. Mark Irwin with Broken Arrow police said he is at a loss for an explanation.

"Well, he didn't seem to have (an explanation) other than he was very hot, and so he took his clothes off to cool down," Irwin said.

Five days after Barnett's first encounter with police, an officer reported seeing the man naked in his front yard again.

"I don't know what his deal is, but he needs to keep his clothes on," said neighbor Rachel Flannagan.

Prior to Barnett's second arrest, officers said they had to ask the man three times to put on some clothes.
