OKLAHOMA CITY -- Police said four people who were street-racing in stolen cars led officers on a wild double chase early Wednesday in south Oklahoma City.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said three adults and one juvenile were arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft and fleeing police Wednesday morning after authorities tried to pull their two cars over near Interstate 40 and Agnew Avenue.
One of the cars crashed into an empty water canal during the chase, which took dangerous twists and turns through traffic on Interstate 240 at its peak. Trooper Ian Rozier said the second driver tried to elude police by speeding through the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds but was eventually stopped by troopers who were both on the ground and in the OHP helicopter."He had no intention of stopping," Rozier said. "On I-240 eastbound, he started passing people on the shoulder at approximately 120 mph."Rozier said troopers had to use their training to get the driver to stop. He said that he used tactical vehicle intervention, or TVI, which involves a trooper using his or her vehicle to stop a fleeing driver."I attempted another TVI just south of I-240 on Western (Avenue)," Rozier said. "He spun out of that one, (then) another trooper TVI'd him for the third time, and that's when he finally came to rest."Authorities said the two cars were stolen in Norman. It was not immediately known if charges had been filed. No injuries were reported and no names have been released in connection with the case.
