Skin Cream May Be Better Than Botox

StriVectin-SD Makers Claim Cream Is Superior Anti-Aging Solution

Each year, millions of women and men hoping for wrinkle-free skin spend millions of dollars to turn back the aging clock.

But the cost of an anti-aging remedy doesn't have to be prohibitive, according to Eyewitness News 5's Jessica Schambach.

StriVectin-SD (pictured, left) is a cream that boasts amazing results for those who use it. Its makers claim that the cream is better than Botox.

The cream claims to cure crow's feet, fine lines and wrinkles. However, the professed wonder cream was actually invented to erase stretch marks.

Dr. Eric Wyatt, a dermatologist, said customers stumbled on the cream's anti-aging benefits.

"They think it's very helpful," Wyatt said. "They feel like they're getting tightening of the tissues in their skin."

But Wyatt said he doesn't buy the cream's "better than Botox" claim.

"That's like comparing rice and beans," he said.

According to Wyatt, there are no independent studies that prove the cream works. However, he did explain how the cream might work through its active ingredient -- pentapeptide.

"(It's a) fairly new discovery that supposedly (causes) collagen production, elastin production and some other things that help to thicken up the dermis," he said.

Ginny O'Leary is trying StriVectin-SD by applying the cream three times per day. When she began, she said, she didn't want to see her face.

"I purposely don't put on my glasses because I look better," she said. "But when I put on my glasses, I can see a lot of wrinkles."

A week later, the 74-year-old said her wrinkles were still there, but she noticed a change in her skin's texture.

"Actually it does ... it feels a lot better -- so that's good," she said.

Men are also getting in on the anti-aging craze.

Greg Draper has been using StriVectin-SD for about five months. He said he could tell a difference in his skin after a few weeks.

"Fine lines is where I can tell a difference," he said. "If I probably used it more consistently, maybe I could see it on the deeper lines that you get."

Draper also sells the cream at his GNC store. The cream can also be purchased at department stores for $135.

According to Draper, the supply lasts about six months.

The makers of StriVectin-SD say the cream takes about one month to produce visible results. Wyatt recommended that sunscreen should also be applied with the cream to help protect the skin.
