It wasn't difficult for Kate Godwin to figure out what career path she would take.

"I love being the first to know," Kate said.

Kate's drive to be the first to dig up a good story, and to bring it straight to you, has earned her several awards throughout her journalistic career, including Reporter of the Year from the New Mexico Broadcasters Association.

Kate left the dry, sandy desert of Albuquerque for the beautiful trees and grass-covered plains of Oklahoma, but not before covering several major stories -- including the capture and release of seven prisoners of war in Iraq and numerous devastating wildfires in New Mexico.

"I turned in my fire gear for my storm chasing gear," she said.

Kate brings her years of experience covering the news to the anchor desk on Saturdays and Sundays on Eyewitness News 5. She also brings you the latest live, local, latebreaking stories as a reporter on weekdays.

A native of Grand Junction, Colo., Kate received her Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from the University of Colorado. She and her husband, Mike, love to explore new places, fish and bike in their spare time.
